The studio is the place where Kim Hanyoung’s long, attentive gaze upon nature becomes form. Located in Seoul, the space is organized around the rhythms of daylight and the slow temporality that his practice requires: canvases rest against the walls for weeks, pigments settle overnight, and the next stroke waits for the surface to be ready.
Rather than a site of rapid production, the studio functions as an extended field of observation. Pressed leaves, seeds, and photographs gathered on walks are laid out beside the easel, forming a working vocabulary that passes gradually into the painted surface. The tactility carried over from his earlier woodcut practice — remains present in every choice of tool, ground, and gesture.
